Dance Dialogues

This project was designed to embrace the challenge of keeping channels of communication around dance open and lively. The Dance Dialogues series puts discourse and discussion front and centre, asking practitioners and scholars to consider and talk about the important topics of the day for artists and art-making in the 21st century. The inaugural Dance Dialogues series explores concepts of the archive.

Dance Dialogues was developed with the generous support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec

The Archive Project (Toronto)

A discussion on the meaning of archive for dance and the movement arts was conducted in December 2023 in Montreal. Among the questions discussed: How does thinking about the past – what is preserved and why – create a framework of values that impacts an art form? When you attempt to capture the dance, what constitutes evidence of its existence?
